How it works

I-GO Car Sharing is a car-sharing program that provides the convenience and flexibility of having a car without the hassles of owning one. Members have 24-hour access to a fleet of I-GO cars in reserved parking spaces located throughout the city and suburbs. Book a Prius for a quick errand run, a Matrix to tote the tykes to a soccer game, or a CR-V to help your friend move into a new apartment. Sell the company car and use I-GO to transport inventory, meet with a client, or visit a project site. Oh, by the way, we’ll pick up the tab for gas, premium insurance, maintenance, reserved parking, and 24-hour assistance. Ready…set…I-GO!

1. Join the club

Choose one of four affordable rate plans, standard I-GO membership or a dual I-GO/CTA account, and fill out our online application form. We also offer three economical plans for businesses.

2. Yes, we take reservations

Choose a car that suits your needs at a location convenient to work, home, or wherever you happen to be. Use your member number and password to log into our online reservation system on this website or via our smartphone site to search for available cars and locations and choose your start and end times. You can also call us 24/7 at (773) 278-4446 to book your next ride. Need a set of wheels for 30 minutes? All day? Either’s fine by us.

3. Play your cards right

The key to the kingdom? Your very own I-GO smartcard. Hold it over a reader on the windshield, watch the pretty lights change from red to yellow to green, and, presto, the doors unlock. Get in, pop open the glovebox, and remove the ignition key and its attached fob from the keypad-equipped console device. Voila. Your trip data is now being recorded on our computer network. (Take the ignition key with you whenever you exit the car during your trip. You’ll use the key, not your smartcard, to lock and unlock doors during your trip.)

Return the car to the same spot and reverse those steps: replace the key and fob, get out, and hold your card over the reader to lock the doors and end your trip. Cool, huh? Want to combine car sharing and public transit in one piece of high-tech plastic? Get on board the Chicago Card Plus/I-GO Card, a new smartcard I-GO developed with the CTA that gives you dual access to I-GO cars, CTA trains and buses, and Pace buses. Not sure you’ll remember all that? Download our GO Guide and print it out. (You’ll find it in all our cars, too.)

4. Make the most of your membership

Use your online account to manage new and existing reservations, track balances and invoices, receive important messages, give us feedback, and sync up with your Google calendar. Learn the ins and outs of membership (and how to drive a Prius hybrid) in our Member Manual (available online and in every car), and get your daily dose of I-GO news, events, and views on green mobility on our blog, Facebook, and Twitter.
