The CCP/I-GO Card and how it works

The CCP/I-GO Card is a joint smart card developed by CTA and I-GO Car Sharing to allow I-GO members to access I-GO vehicles, CTA buses and trains and Pace buses. The card has separate online accounts for I-GO and the CTA.
The joint smart card has two chips, one of which is used to pay fares on CTA trains and buses and Pace buses, and the other which permits and tracks entry into I-GO vehicles. The card will not be affected or deactivated if kept near other credit/debit cards.
Hold the card next to the touchpad on the front of rail station turnstiles for CTA trains and in front of the touchpad on CTA and Pace buses.
To access your I-GO vehicle, place the CCP/I-GO Card over the reader on the driver’s side front windshield. For more details, see our How it Works page.
No. Neither CTA nor I-GO has access to the other’s records of your transportation use.
Like a regular Chicago Card Plus Card, the CCP/I-GO Card can be used to pay for up to seven customers traveling together at the same time on the same CTA or Pace bus route or passing through the same CTA rail station turnstile. Each passback ride will have the appropriate fare (full fare or transfer) deducted from your CCP/I-GO Card account. The CCP/I-GO Card can only be used by the I-GO approved member and cannot be used by any other person to drive an I-GO vehicle.
You will have separate accounts for I-GO and CTA. To access your Chicago Card Plus account go to
www.chicago-card.com and log in with your user name and password to manage fare preferences, view your account balances, transaction history, change your personal information and more.
To access your I-GO account and vehicle reservation system, enter your I-GO member number and password at www.igocars.org. For more detailed information on the benefits and responsibilities of membership in I-GO, please read I-GO’s FAQ.
You can also contact the CTA by dialing 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Contact I-GO at 773-278-4446 for membership assistance or to make, extend or cancel reservations.
Applying for your CCP/I-GO Card
During this pilot program, the new CCP/I-GO Card will be available to those who qualify and are not currently an I-GO Car Sharing member.
For I-GO membership, if you are between the ages of 18-75 with a valid driver’s license with no serious moving violations, chances are you are eligible to become an I-GO member. Please see our eligibility requirements. If you have questions or concerns as to whether you can become a member, contact I-GO Member Services at 773-278-4446. (See I-GO’s FAQ page for further details on I-GO membership requirements.)
By completing the
individual CCP/I-GO Card membership application form on the I-GO website, we’ve made it possible to initiate your accounts for both I-GO and CTA. Only the information necessary to activate your Chicago Card Plus account, including personal contact and billing information, will automatically be sent by secure connection to CTA after you agree to the
Terms & Conditions on the form and submit your application.
The application form includes a “CTA Registration” section where you set up your CCP account and select either the Pay-Per-Use or 30-Day Pass preference and create a card PIN that you’ll use when logging into your account on the www.chicago-card.com website. The form also lets you set a password and PIN for your I-GO account.
The form also includes a “CTA E-Mail Preferences” section that allows you to request or decline emails related to credit card status notifications, market research, and updates on CTA travel information or service changes.
Please note: The information transferred from I-GO to CTA is only for the purposes of activating the CTA account. Once both accounts are active, I-GO will not have access to your CTA account information; nor will CTA have access to your I-GO account information.
To cancel your existing Chicago Card Plus, visit www.chicago-card.com, log in to your account, click on the “Cancel Account” link, and follow the prompts. You can also call 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282) Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
When you cancel your previous Chicago Card Plus account, the remaining value on the card cannot be transferred to your new CCP/I-GO Card but will continue to be available for transportation on CTA or Pace. When the balance reaches $0, the CTA will permanently disable your card. You are responsible for all rides taken using your Chicago Card Plus even if it has been cancelled.
When you apply for the CCP/I-GO Card and I-GO membership you will be charged a one-time, non-refundable I-GO application fee of $25 and a first-year membership cost of $50. You must also set an initial balance for either the CTA’s pay-per-use or 30-Day Pass account that you establish as part of the application process.
For more details on I-GO driving plans, see our Pricing page. To manage reload amounts for the CCP/I-GO Card, visit www.chicago-card.com or call 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Yes. I-GO’s membership application process requires payment of a non-refundable $25 application fee and validation of your credit card and driving record. If you are declined membership in I-GO, you may still apply for a standard Chicago Card Plus Card, but you will still be charged the non-refundable $25 fee.
I-GO will inform the individual that their application for I-GO membership has been declined, but that the CTA will still send them the CCP/I-GO Card with the CTA portion activated. If the applicant does not want this, they must contact the CTA at 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282) Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
No. While you will need to annually renew your I-GO membership for $25, the CTA does not require an annual fee. The CCP/I-GO Card will not expire for approximately four years. No earlier than 45 days prior to your Chicago Card Plus chip’s expiration, CTA will send you an email to inform you that your card will be expiring and explain the process for replacing your CCP/I-GO Card. The CTA, not I-GO, administers replacement cards. If your card is expiring, it will be replaced at no cost to you.
No. A new Chicago Card Plus account will be created for your CCP/I-GO Card. Existing Chicago Card Plus users can obtain a CCP/I-GO Card by establishing a new I-GO membership first and paying all of the requisite I-GO application and membership fees.
In most cases it will take 5-7 business days after your application is submitted.

The CCP/I-GO Card is accepted for full-fare payment on all CTA rail and bus routes and Pace buses. Simply touch your CCP/I-GO Card to the touchpad on the front of rail station turnstiles and bus fareboxes on all CTA and Pace buses. Metra does not accept CTA fare media.
I-GO has cars throughout metropolitan Chicago and along many CTA lines. Click here for an up-to-date map of car locations. Once you make a reservation to access an I-GO vehicle, hold the CCP/I-GO Card over the reader (driver’s side front windshield) until the doors unlock and the reader light turns green. Should the card fail to activate the unlocking devices contact I-GO’s 24-hour call center at 773-278-4446.
If your CCP/I-GO Card does not work on CTA, immediately notify the customer assistant at the rail station or the bus operator. To get a replacement card you should visit
www.chicago-card.com or contact CTA Customer Service at 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If your CCP/I-GO Card fails to open the doors on the vehicle you’ve reserved for that precise time, contact I-GO Member Services or 24-hour call center at 773-278-4446 for assistance. The member service representative should be able to remotely unlock the car for you. In the rare instance of a technical or mechanical malfunction, I-GO will locate and reserve another nearby car.
Replacing or canceling your CCP/I-GO Card
If your CCP/I-GO Card is lost, stolen or damaged you should log on to your account at
www.chicago-card.com and click on “Replace Card.” Or you may contact CTA Customer Service at 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Once you notify the CTA that your CCP/I-GO Card is lost, stolen, or damaged, your CCP/I-GO Card will be canceled immediately so that it will no longer work. Once your CCP/I-GO Card is canceled, it may not be reactivated or used again. You will be charged a non-refundable $20 replacement fee to obtain a new CCP/I-GO Card. CTA will charge $5 and I-GO will charge $15 to your credit/debit card to pay for the replacement card. Your new card will include the value remaining in your account at the time you properly reported it lost, stolen or damaged.
You must provide CTA Customer Service with the personal identification number (PIN) for your CCP/I-GO account in order to get it replaced. CTA will attempt to mail replacement CCP/I-GO Cards within 5-7 business days of the customer’s notice to CTA that the CCP/I-GO Card was lost, stolen or damaged. If a CCP/I-GO Card that operates as a 30-Day Pass is lost, stolen or damaged, the timing of the 30-day cycle cannot be reset.
If you elect to replace your card in person at CTA’s Sales Center, the CCP portion of your card will work immediately. There may be a delay of 24 hours, however, before you will be able to access your I-GO vehicle.
Also, never print or place a label with your I-GO member number and password on the card. If the card is lost or stolen, others could make reservations on your account and you could incur and be liable for driving charges.
A CCP/I-GO Card will not be reactivated once reported lost or stolen.
Replacement cards may be mailed to the shipping address listed in your account information or picked up at CTA headquarters at 567 W. Lake Street, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Let the CTA know which delivery option you prefer. Replacement cards picked up at CTA headquarters will be available 3 business days after the request is received. (Please allow 1-2 business days for the I-GO portion of your card to be activated.) For delivery via mail, cards should be received between 5-7 days.
You may cancel your CTA CCP/I-GO account at any time by going online at
www.chicago-card.com or by calling CTA Customer Service at 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282). You will need your user name, password, and PIN to execute the cancellation. To cancel your I-GO account please email I-GO Member Services at
cancel@igocars.org. Please note that your I-GO account will remain active even if your CTA account is canceled until you email I-GO to cancel. You will have access to your transaction history until your CCP/I-GO Card has been turned off and your CCP/I-GO account access terminated.
If you cancel your CTA account, the remaining value in your CCP/I-GO Card will continue to be available for transportation on CTA or Pace. When the CCP/I-GO Card balance reaches $0, the CTA will permanently disable your CCP/I-GO Card. You are responsible for all rides taken using your CCP/I-GO Card even if it has been cancelled. Please note that canceling a card or account is a final action.
The Chicago Card Plus Card will still work at CTA train stations and buses and Pace buses even if you cancel your I-GO account.
Only one card holder may be linked to a CCP/I-GO Card account and must have a credit/debit card on file, which will be charged for all reloading activity.
Transit Benefit Fare Program
Once you establish a CCP/I-GO Card account it can then be linked to the Chicago Card Plus RTA/CTA Transit Benefit Fare Program. You must submit an employee enrollment form and your employer must have a CCP Transit Benefit Program account in order to receive the benefits of the CTA Employer’s Transit Benefit Program.
No. You must first cancel your original Chicago Card Plus account. When you cancel that account, the transit benefit linked to that specific card will not transfer to your new CCP/I-GO Card account.
Every CCP and CCP/I-GO Card has a unique serial number located in the lower right corner on the back of the card. After your new CCP/I-GO Card is activated, you will need to submit this information along with an employee enrollment form to your employer. Your employer must have a CCP Transit Benefit Program account in order to receive the benefits of the RTA/CTA Transit Benefit Fare Program.
