I-GO is the lowest priced and only locally based car-sharing service in Chicago. We’re also a non-profit organization affiliated with the Center for Neighborhood Technology, a MacArthur Foundation Award-winning “think-and-do tank” that’s specialized in urban sustainability issues and initiatives—including sustainable transportation—for three decades.
Every I-GO rate plan includes:
- Gas
- Premium insurance
- Low-emission vehicles
- Reserved parking
- 24-hour assistance
Car sharing can drastically reduce your annual automotive costs. Survey research indicates that adopting car sharing helps families save as much as $4,000 a year on transportation costs, which typically average around $7,300. But don’t take it from just us. Charges to your credit card after completing and submitting your application will include:
- $25 non-refundable application processing fee
- $50 membership fee (covers first year of membership) charged upon application’s approval

- Sign-up charges may vary when using a discount promotional code.
- Unless you notify I-GO you do not wish to renew, you will also be automatically charged a $25 annual membership renewal fee in the month preceding the expiration date of your first year’s enrollment.

Individual driving plans
Driving habits and needs are different for each individual. Our plans offer the flexibility needed to make I-GO Car Sharing convenient and affordable.

* Rates vary by day, time, location and vehicle type. Overnight rates—just $4/hour from midnight to 6 a.m.—remain consistent seven days a week regardless of rate plan, day, time, location or vehicle type.
** For all plans except GO Standard, 150 free miles are included per reservation. Additional miles will be billed at $0.40 per mile.
GO Standard
Sedans, hybrids, smaller cars: $6.75 to $8.25/hour; compact-crossover SUVs: $7.75 to $9.25/hour; minivans/compact pickup truck: $8.75 to $10.25/hour. In addition to the hourly rate, you pay $0.40 for each mile you drive. GO Standard also includes an all-day-rate option which includes 150 miles that can be used eight times a year. All-day rates range from $65 to $88. There is no monthly rate or commitment time period.
GO Standard Plus
Sedans, hybrids, smaller cars: $8.50 to $10/hour; compact-crossover SUVs: $9.50 to $11.50/hour; minivans/compact pickup truck: $10.50 to $12. All-day rates: $70 to $93. You get 150 miles included with each reservation. If you go above 150 miles on a reservation, it’s $0.40 for each additional mile traveled. There is no monthly rate or commitment time period.
GO Budget
Monthly rate: $15. The first three reservation hours per month are included. After that, you’re billed according to the GO Standard Plus plan: sedans, hybrids, smaller cars: $8.50 to $10/hour; compact-crossover SUVs: $9.50 to $11.50/hour; minivans/compact pickup truck: $10.50 to $12. All-day rates: $70 to $93. (Please note: The three hours cannot be applied to cancellations, released balances, fines and fees, or toward day-rate reservations because the day rate is already discounted. Nor do they roll over to the next month if they are not used.) You get 150 miles included with each reservation. If you go above 150 miles on a reservation, it’s $0.40 for each additional mile traveled. There is a minimum six-month time commitment on the GO Budget plan.
GO Anytime
Monthly rate: $30. This does not include any free hours, but it locks in a flat hourly rate—$7/hour—regardless of car type or day of the week. All-day rates: $70 to $93. You get 150 miles included with each reservation. If you go above 150 miles on a reservation, it’s $0.40 for each additional mile traveled. There is a minimum six-month time commitment on the GO Anytime plan.
Additional drivers
Any eligible driver may be added to an existing I-GO account. Additional drivers will need the main account holder’s name and/or member ID number when completing the application form. The primary account holder is responsible for all charges on his or her account. The account-holding member will be charged a non-refundable application fee of $25 per additional driver. If the additional driver’s application is accepted, the member’s credit card or debit card will be charged and the application will be processed. There is an annual renewal fee of $25 for both the member and each additional driver.
Calculating rates and mileage
Estimating your trip cost
Since rates on our plans vary depending on the time, day, location, and type of vehicle you choose, we have an Estimated Trip Cost Calculator built into our online reservation system, which allows you to see your estimated cost before finalizing your reservation. When you first see the list of cars in your neighborhood, you’ll see the weekday hourly rate, the weekend hourly rate, and the day rate for each vehicle. Once you’ve selected the desired time for your reservation, the calculator will also display the estimated cost for that trip for each vehicle. That way, you can quickly see which vehicle will cost the least for that reservation. The estimated cost does not include mileage for GO Standard Plan members.
Why do rates depend on the time, day, location and type of vehicle?
I-GO is an environmentally-oriented company committed to reducing the carbon dioxide emissions contributing to global warming and climate change. Subsequently, our higher-fuel-usage vehicles are priced accordingly. For example, minivans cost more than hybrids. Having different rates for vehicles during weekdays versus the weekend does offer advantages for members: Since we experience the highest demand for cars on weekends, our rate structure gives members with flexible schedules the opportunity to save money by reserving vehicles during the week. Slightly higher weekend rates also give members who must drive on weekends a better chance of securing their first-choice vehicle.
Day-rate vehicles
It’s easy to find 24-hour vehicles on our online reservation system, because more than half of the cars in I-GO’s fleet are available at day rates starting at $65/day. Please note: The three free GO Budget hours cannot be applied to day-rate reservations because the latter is already discounted.
150 free miles
When you reserve an I-GO vehicle, you get 150 free miles for each reservation. Mileage over these amounts will be billed at $0.40 per mile. The 150-mile/reservation is included in all plans except GO Standard, for which miles are billed at $0.40 per mile. (GO Standard includes a new all-day-rate option which includes 150 miles that can be used eight times a year.)
Midnight-to-6 a.m. rates
Every member on every plan only pays $4/hour from midnight to 6 a.m. Mileage charges are based on plan.
