Eligibility requirements

Please review the following requirements before completing an application for membership. If you have further questions about eligibility, please call I-GO Member Services at (773) 278-4446 Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CST) or email us at info@igocars.org.

All applicants must be at least 18 years old and must join before their 76th birthday. If you are 18 to 20 years old, you may join if you have at least two years’ driving experience and your driving record is free of violations and accidents.

Applicants who are 21 or older must meet the following requirements:

  1. Your current driver’s license needs to be valid for at least three consecutive years. If it isn’t, you will need to provide us with your previous license number(s). Often, you can track down this information by contacting your previous state’s Department of Motor Vehicles or current or previous home/auto insurance company.
  2. Your current driver’s license needs to be from your permanent state of residence. If it is not, please see below. If you have just moved to Illinois, you may join with a current out-of-state license, but you must acquire an Illinois license within 60 days of joining. If you have a foreign license, please obtain a copy of your driving record (in English) from the country where it was issued. For more details, see our requirements for international drivers.
  3. If you have any major moving violations listed on your driving record in the last three years, you are currently not eligible. Major moving violations include DUI/DWI; excessive speeding (16 or more mph over the posted speed limit); revoked or suspended license; reckless driving; and vehicular manslaughter.
  4. If you have more than two minor violations listed on your driving record in the last three years, you are currently not eligible.
  5. You will need to have a valid credit card or debit card issued by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express. You may not apply with a checking card or ATM card.

“I-GO is a great second car. Even though we’re a busy family with two kids, I can rely on I-GO, and my husband commutes in the family car.”
